Turkey Trot's Past

These were the lucky gals to catch turkeys at the '52 festival.  To catch a turkey was a big deal and a sign or right of passage both then and now.

Jim Pollard.  Notice the ring.  He also the Grand National Champion as well as our King of Champions and Senior Open winner.  Sounds like a grand slam for him!

The lost "Traveling Trophy"
This trophy would go home with the winner of the National Calling Contest for the year every year.  The Kennedy family from Tulsa Oklahoma were the sponsors of the Contest in the beginning years.  The trophy was lost at some point in the history of the event and has not been found.  We'd like it back!

For some reason, indians seemed to figure big in the 1952 Turkey Trot.  This gentleman dancing to the Yellville-Summit High School 'war drums' is Native American.  His image can be seen in other photos from the 1952 festival posted on our website.  We don't know who he is or why he was a part of the festival.  Yet another mystery!
